Year 6 Transition

Year 6 Transition

In view of the national restrictions presently in place, it is not possible for us to run our usual transition programme of visits and tours of the school this term. Regrettably, we have to cancel the planned visits to the larger primary schools in June, the visit to Waddesdon of children from smaller primary schools on Tuesday 23 June 2020 and the two transition days for all children on 7 and 8 July. It is also necessary for us to cancel the Information Evening for Year 6 parents on Wednesday 8 July.

This is very disappointing for us, as we look forward to meeting the children and find that these visits are invaluable as part of the preparation for moving to secondary school.

We have instead created some resources which you will find below.  The resources are aimed at the children joining us and include a booklet about the school day and what to expect, a virtual tour of the school, an interview with Mrs Allen, Head of Year 7 and interviews with some of our current Year 7s.

In addition, we are hoping to invite every child to spend a morning with us in July. If this proves to be possible, the children will be allocated one of five form groups, and each form will be invited to come into school on a different day to meet their form tutor (if available) and other key staff. Social distancing, appropriate hygiene regimes and a risk assessment (which we will share with you) will be in place. Ideally, these visits will take place in the week commencing 6 July, but further details, including which day to attend, will be sent nearer the time.  If it does not prove possible to have a transition morning in July, we will organise a similar event in September.  We are sensitive to the normal challenges of transition and the increased anxieties that some families might be feeling at this time.

We remain in contact with all your primary schools to ensure that we have the most up to date information possible. We are also making arrangements for meetings via video conferencing over the coming weeks with primaries and parents in respect of all children with an Education, Health and Care Plans.

We will write to you again shortly with further information. If you have any queries relating to transition, please email them to and they will be directed to the person best able to respond.

We look forward to meeting you all in the near future.

School ties can be purchased from the school. A letter regarding ties and starter packs (calculators, etc) will be sent out shortly. For other uniform, please see the information below.
