International Links and Visits
Our students enjoy outstanding opportunities to learn from experience by visiting different countries across the world and interacting with young people in our link schools and organisations. Each year a group of Year 13 students spend a week in India, hosted by our link university, Bishop Heber College in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. From this base they visit local schools, colleges, orphanages, NGOs and villages. Every two years students from Years 11 to 13 take part in global expeditions with World Challenge. In 2011 the expedition took place in Bolivia, in 2013 Borneo and Malaysia and in 2015 Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, whilst our Summer 2017 expedition went to South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique.
Our music students from different years have also taken part in a school exchange programme with their counterparts in Jokela High School, Tuusula, Finland. Meanwhile, our link partnership with Kama High School, Eastern Cape, South Africa, has led to exchange visits by several members of staff from both schools. Each year, we take part in the Holocaust Education Trust’s ‘Lessons from Auschwitz’ programme, which includes a visit to the Nazi extermination camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau, a meeting with a Holocaust survivor and a programme of structured learning activities. Members of staff from subject areas also lead regular visits to various parts of France, Spain and Germany.
