WE’RE BACK: Matilda The Musical Jr 2021

Waddesdon Church of England School > Performing Arts > WE’RE BACK: Matilda The Musical Jr 2021

As you may know, we are currently working on this year’s whole school production of “Matilda The Musical JR.” It has been an absolute joy to bring a such a talented ensemble together and we are extremely excited to give you the chance to see what they have done.

“Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical JR.” is adapted from the full-length musical which was based on the book by Roald Dahl, and features a book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin. The show opened on the West End in 2011 and made its Broadway premiere in 2013. The musical earned seven Olivier Awards, including “Best New Musical,” and five Tony awards, including The Tony for “Best Book of a Musical.”

Synopsis: “Matilda, a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers, lives with cruel parents who find her to be a nuisance, a lousy little worm, and a bore. When Matilda enters her first term at school, she captures the attention of Miss Honey, a kind teacher, and the two form a wonderful friendship. Unfortunately, the school is ruled by a tempestuous and mean headmistress named Miss Trunchbull, who hates children and delivers cruel and unjust punishments to all her charges. Matilda is determined to change her story, but will her cleverness and courage be enough to withstand the reign of Miss Trunchbull?”

The performances will take place in the school hall at 7.00pm on Thursday 18, Friday 19, and Saturday 20 November. As we will be running the show with a reduced capacity audience, we may be able to offer a 2.30pm matinee performance on Saturday 20 November if there is sufficient demand.

All tickets will be priced at £6. If you would like to come to watch the show and support our student performers, please order your tickets through your ParentPay account. Each performance is a separate item on ParentPay, so please ensure you select the correct date. Please book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. There is always high demand for tickets for the final performance and, therefore, we must limit tickets for the Saturday evening show to 6 per family. Tickets will be distributed to your son/daughter nearer the time.

Seats will be allocated on the night and a member of our front of house team will show you to your seats. We will be making every effort for family groups to be socially distanced once in the auditorium, leaving spaces between each group. In line with current guidance, the auditorium will be well ventilated so please dress accordingly for thermal comfort. Please also note that we will require all audience members, unless medically exempt, to wear a face covering in the auditorium. We also ask that you please complete a lateral flow test on the day you plan to attend a performance. These measures are being implemented to protect you and our whole school community.

We look forward to seeing you to celebrate our students’ successes together.

If you can’t wait to see the show and are after a sneak peak of the ‘Behind The Scenes’ action, then watch our short BTS video of some early rehearsals for this year’s musical.
